Caring for fashion jewelry
Senast uppdaterad:
Keep fashion jewelry dry, put it on after perfume and lotion, take it off for showers, swimming and workouts, and store each piece apart in a closed pouch. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth; never use abrasive cleaners on plated pieces.
Every day
- Put jewelry on last, after perfume, hairspray and lotion, and take it off first.
- Take it off before showering, swimming (chlorine and salt water are hard on plating), cleaning with chemicals and exercising.
- Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth after wearing, to remove sweat and skin oils.
Storing
- Keep each piece apart, so harder pieces and stones don't scratch softer ones and chains don't tangle.
- A small closed pouch or a zip bag slows tarnish by keeping air and moisture out.
- Keep it out of the bathroom, where it's damp.
Cleaning by material
- Plated and alloy: a soft dry cloth only. Water, polish and ultrasonic cleaners wear plating through.
- Stainless steel: warm water with a drop of mild soap, a soft brush if needed, then dry fully.
- 925 silver: a silver polishing cloth for tarnish; avoid it on plated or oxidised (deliberately darkened) parts.
- Pieces with glued stones: no soaking, the glue can let go.
When the colour wears off
Plating wears with use; how fast depends on its thickness and how the piece is worn. Rings and bracelets rub most and fade first. A piece that arrives with flaking or worn plating is a fault: tell us from the order page or the Help page.
